Hockey is a sport ingrained in our Canadian culture, most of us play or have played at some point in our lives. But one of the little caveats of hockey that we take for granted is after the game, or the post-game. It is the time-honored tradition when your come of drinking age to have an ice-cold beer to celebrate your win, or lament your loss with the team. This is a market that largely remains untargeted by the major beer companies. They may market their beer for after game at a local bar or pub, but few truly look to target the locker room. This is where most beer league teams get their post-game beer, and it’s where you’ll find the true comradery of the team.

Locker room beer is that communal moment every player experience when they step off the ice, into the locker room to celebrate a victory or share in the sadness of defeat. It is a defining moment of friendship and comradery between teammates where you take solace in the fact that you won or lost as a team.

Why is a cold post-game beer important?

This is a way to share with your friends and teammates and build a lasting friendship with this group of people. It’s about the team, you win and lose with these people. But that goes beyond just the rink, these are friendships that if built properly can last a lifetime. I have been playing with the same group of guys for 7 years now, and I try to never miss a game. Why you ask? Because these guys are like brother to me now, and it was all built around having an ice-cold beer after the game. Everyone needs a group to belong too, no matter how introverted you may be, and for some this is a perfect way to get out and enjoy other people’s company. It allows you to relax and for at least a little bit forget the troubles of the world and enjoy time with friends.

How do teams usually enjoy their locker room beers?

Every team has its on list of rules when it comes to beers in the locker room. For example, my team has a list that includes: no discount beers, no light beer and if you can’t make it that’s fine, but the beer had better make it still. While we all agree on that, some other teams might now. That’s the beauty of this, every team can custom tailor their rules and list for how they enjoy their beer. Some teams choose to employ a light beer only rule. Some set hard limits on how much beer can be brought any given week. But it all comes back to the same basic premise, there had better be beer in the locker room.

So, to sum it all up, I guess what I am saying is you can form friendships that last a lifetime over the simple act of cracking a beer in the locker room. I know it sounds odd and funny, but I can not say it enough how easy it is. I implore you, next time you play if your team doesn’t already, bring a few beers for the team and pass them out after the game. It may be a life changer!

JJQ’s offers a modern bar, big screen TV’s to watch live sporting events, lunch special and dinner specials. On certain evenings in addition, there are raffles for prices and 50/50 draws. JJQ’s offers live music to create an amazing atmosphere on Tuesdays and Saturdays. John Bayuk is our music technician who searching through local music to promote local talent. Tuesdays is scheduled for local rock/ jazz bands that are booked by our music technician. Whereas Saturdays we have a rotation of different DJ that play top 40 music and hip hop. Customer can requests certain songs directly to the DJ who usually accepts them but may refuse. These are great additions for a billiards bar, but Thirsty Thursday is my favourite night of the week  with their cheap drink special of 5-dollar drafts.

Living in Mississauga pros and cons, a con would be how expensive it is to dine out and enjoy a meal. As I explored the internet looking for places to eat I came across a hidden gem in Mississauga called “JJQ’s”. The atmosphere as well as their cheap food specials really intrigues the customer to give them a try. Now usually restaurants with cheap food specials lack quality and service. However, this was not the case with JJQ’s.. JJQs immediately impresses consumers with their cheap food specials such as their incredible chicken wings.

I would classify myself as an introverted individual that finds it hard to meet people or make friends, JJQ’s got me out of comfort zone and taught me how to communicate with strangers and make new friends. I would have never thought I would be a person that would play pool or even shoot darts at a bar. We crafted several recipes with the authentic middle eastern flavours you know and love. These recipes are fast, and affordable, with a few simple ingredients, for the everyday shawarma lover! Chicken shawarma is our top seller at all locations, and it only makes sense to make it our first authentic middle eastern recipe. If you are new to the kitchen here are 8 guidelines, we recommend you follow to get started.

1. Assemble all ingredients in an organized manner
2. Have several dishes to separate ingredients
3. Have a sponge/or clothe for easy clean ups
4. Wash cutting board between steps
5. Have a separate cutting board for raw meat
6. After completion sanitize cutting board with a chlorine solution
7. Avoid using dull knives to refrain from excessive force when cutting
8. Have patience’s when dealing with raw food, sharp objectives, and heat

How to Make Authentic Lebanese Chicken Shawarma

Ingredients:

• 1lb of boneless skinless chicken breast
• 1lb of boneless skinless chicken thigh
• 6 separated tbsp of olive oil
• 2 tsp cumin
• ¼ tsp garlic powder
• 2 tsp paprika
• 1 tsp all spice
• ¼ cayenne
• ¾ tsp turmeric
• ¼ tsp cinnamon
• Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment:

• Baking sheet and skillet both are required for optimal cooking techniques
• Cooking utensils like spatula and tongs

Instructions:

Marinating the Meat

• On a clean cutting board slice the chicken thighs and breast and to similar sized medium pieces. Place the now sliced meat into a marinating dish or large sealable bag.
• In a separate small bowl combine all the seasoning along with a quarter cup of olive oil (the olive oil will bring out the juicy flavours in the meat). Continue to whisk these all together until combined.
• Once the seasoning is thoroughly mixed, pour the marinate all over the chopped chicken and coat evenly by mixing with a spoon.
• Place marinated chicken covered with plastic wrap or sealed in a bag in the fridge for 1 hour or more. (The longer the marinate, the more authentic the flavours will be)

Cooking

• Preheat oven to 375F degrees
• Lightly grease pan or baking sheet as oil is already in marinate
• Once oven is heated place chicken on baking sheet and cook for 20 minutes
• Place chicken in skillet, once cooked and sear on each side for 5 minutes until nicely golden and brown/ with a slight char
• Let rest for 5-10 minutes

To Serve

• Slice chicken to desired length and thickness
• Serve chicken on platter with flatbread to roll up
• Or place on rice with yogurt sauce or preferable garlic sauce for us
